Henry Rono - Olympic Dream
Finally - with all due thanks to the Royal Mail and their strike for more pay to aid them in their arduous task of walking the streets putting envelopes through letter boxes and leaving parcels outside houses rather than use their non-existent literary skills to scribe a note indicating their inability to deposit their oversized missives & parcels rather than take them back to the depot where they were going anyway in order to drop off their "company vehicle" - my copy of Henry Rono's book "Olympic Dream" arrived today.
About time that Adam Kay and Suman Biswas updated their song about the "London underground", methinks...

Trading Hours
A work colleague, Percival Worsfold (a geography teacher at King David), recently had a rant about going to get some passport photographs done and not being able to because the shop workers had closed the machine down ten minutes before the end of the day.
Today, I went to buy some fish from an AQUATIC pet shop in URMSTON and was told that it would be impossible to buy some fish. This despite the fact that it was a full FIFTEEN MINUTES before their advertised closing time. Fine - I'll buy my fish elsewhere in future. Not many things make me mad but along with poor manners, poor customer service rates right up there.
Personally, I'd have gone home late rather than turn a customer away and have done on many occasions. I wasn't the only one - other people were turned away as I was spending my money in the Off Licence next door instead.
What is the point of advertising a 4pm closing time if you won't sell something after 3.45pm (and for all I know, it might have been 3.30pm)?

Bradford & Bingley - don't bother
I saw on the MoneySavingExpert web site recently that Bradford & Bingley have a market-leading savings rate of 6.4% for their Internet account. I signed up, but lost the sign-up password. Fair enough, my fault, but I assumed they would notify me of a log-in password via separate snail-mail from the log-in ID I received today. That appears not to be the case.
I have spent over 30 minutes trying to get through to them on the phone today to reset my password, but was constantly on hold. No wonder they offer such a good rate if they don't employ anybody in a Far East sweat shop to answer the phones. To add insult to injury, they had someone with a Geordie accent constantly saying they had "high volumes of calls". What, from 11am to 8pm? Yeah right.
I left an online request this morning asking to be called back, but they haven't done so.
Needless to say I'll be leaving my cash where it is (Alliance & Leicester) for the sake of a few extra quid per year.
